KRFC is a non-profit public radio station that serves theNorthern Coloradoregion. Their vision is to be recognized as a respected voice of the community, creating a sense of place through excellent radio programming. KRFC broadcasts diverse music, local news and local public affairs.

LMC (Local MC): What is goal of KRFC?

AS (Andrew Schneider): To make great radio that is local, non-commercial & volunteer powered, while creating community through radio.

LMC: Who all is involved in the program?

AS: We have volunteers running the program, they spend 40,000 hours of their own time to run things.

LMC: Who has been the most fun to interview?

AS: Out of the two of the eight years, I have always enjoyed localColorado music, because there is so much crossover between musicians in music projects. Which gives you a broad spectrum of who has performed with each other & the strengths of the music community.

LMC: What would you like to see the radio program achieve?

AS: I think there are a lot of artists that don’t know about Live At Lunch that can get exposure for those local artists. We are the oldest local radio station for local artist

LMC: How long has the program been running?

AS: It has been going on for eight years, but I’ve been with the program for two years.

LMC: If you could do something crazy for KRFC what would it be?

AS: I would like to have underwear models skydiving in on a major music event with KRFC parachutes.

LMC: Is the radio station involved in any events around town?

AS: We sponsor a lot of events around town. Like family friendly outdoor events to underground music events. Our dj’s MC concerts & music fest.s year round. This year we’ve seen a big rise in KRFC’s ground presents at community events around town.

LMC: Who started the program?

AS: The Live At Lunch team still has a couple volunteers from the beginning. It was the dream of a lot of people to feature live music, local & touring musicians.

LMC: What other exposure do the musicians get besides being on the radio?

AS: Through the website we have artists information there. Tuesday through Thursday 7 to 8 we have the live & local spotlight where we play music from artists. As well as get information about musicians on Facebook.

LMC: How do you find musicians or how can they contact you?

AS: The majority of artists find us through the website KRFC.org. There is a sign-up form that musicians can fill out. There is also a team of dedicated volunteers who are very active in the music community who help spread the word. The best is from word of mouth from artists who have been on the show.

LMC: What is your favorite part of doing the show?

AS: I love being in the studio, but more then that is connecting music lovers to artists. Either local musicians or from the other side of the world.

LMC: What style or genre do you want to see more of on the program?

AS: There are a lot of bands that won’t fit in a afternoon program. Live & Local Spotlight is where the artists go that won’t work for afternoon radio. We’re always looking for innovative sounds. Styles of music that won’t fit in a normal radio format.

LMC: Would you like to add anything else?

AS: What we’re proud of is local quality to be comparative to national acts. Bringing a professional quality to our local musicians. We’re always looking for music loving volunteers to help make the community stronger.
