Colorado natives, Kyle Even and David Schmitt, better known as Breathe Carolina, started 2011 off with their release of Hell Is What You Make It, and an appearance at the Winter X Games. This year, they’re still going strong, having finished up the video for “Blackout” and heading back to the studio in January with some new tunes.

Schmitt describes their sounds as “crazy, electronic, and dance-y,” stating “we try and bring the party everywhere we go.” The duo grew up in Colorado, and played house shows before getting to where they are now. Says Schmitt, “the Colorado scene is super sick. I’m glad I’m from here.”

Before Breathe Carolina, Schmitt had the pleasure (not) of working at Cold Stone Creamery, a job he had to sing, “bull*@!* songs for to get tips,” and went home smelling like spoiled milk by the end of the day.

According to Schmitt, the band’s greatest accomplishment to date is that, “every step of the way, [we’ve] stayed friends, through all the craziness.” Also, he claims he is the main attraction [of the band]. “I bring the fans, I bring everybody. Just kidding, I don’t bring anything cool. I bring the worry. I’m always constantly worrying about everything, so I think I bring the worry and the stress to the group.”

And about those rumors of Breathe Carolina playing Warped Tour this year?

When asked how he would describe his band members, Schmitt says, “weird, talented, stone-y, and nice.”
