We Came as Romans
This has to be one of the best lineups I have seen hit Colorado this fall. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing We Came as Romans on Warped Tour this last summer and Chunk during a show a couple of years ago at the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. when they opened up for Attack! Attack!. I heard great things about Dangerkids and the Color Morale and after their shows I was very surprised with their talent and stage presence. I spoke with Garret Rapp (the Color Morale) after the show and he was one of the nicest front men I’ve ever met. His band’s message is along the lines of “you’re never alone and you should never give up,” and he stressed this through his monologues between songs. His inspiration shines directly on the portion of our younger generation that has been bullied, harassed, or diagnosed with depression. Their new album, Know Hope, is out right now and for anyone who is a fan of inspirational and motivational music should check it out.
Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! is a band from France and they released an album, Pardon My French, in 2011. Their album is a mixture of punk and pop with a lighter tone than their first album that came out in 2008, Something for Nothing. I’ve been a huge fan since their first album and their transition into the music they recently produced is a very attractive bonus to pop/punk music lovers. I recommend songs “Taking Chances”, “The Progress of Regression”, and “In Friends We Trust” from their 2008 album. My only problem with the band had to of been their recent selling of Bertrand Poncet’s full panda suit he would wear when they start performing.
Silverstein also released an album in 2012 titled This is How the Wind Shifts (now available for listening on YouTube.com). Despite Neil Boshart’s departure, the Canadian band continued on with Boshart’s replacement, Marc Rousseau (formerly I am Committing a Sin). Silverstein had a great mixture of songs, bringing back some of their originals for the fans that have supported Silverstein from the start.
I was amazed with We Came as Roman’s performance as the headliner on the Tracing Back Roots tour. They were energetic engaging with Andy Glass throwing his bass around like it was made of foam and Dave Stephens running from side to side and belting out his lyrics. Their new album, Understanding What We’ve Grown to Be, is a perfect complement off of their latter album, To Plant a Seed.
