Colorado Public Radio’s OpenAir will move to 102.3 FM Denver/Boulder starting Jan. 27

CENTENNIAL, Colo. Jan. 5, 2015 – Colorado Public Radio (CPR) announced today that OpenAir will begin broadcasting on 102.3 FM starting Jan. 27. Currently available on 1340 AM, the new FM signal will significantly improve Colorado Public Radio’s new music service in Denver and Boulder.

“This is the natural next step for OpenAir’s evolution,” said Colorado Public Radio President Max Wycisk. “It meets an expressed listener need to strengthen the quality of the service while also making it more accessible across the Front Range.”

OpenAir’s programming will continue to focus on highlighting Colorado’s music community, with hosts offering insight and commentary about local musicians, new albums and upcoming events. OpenAir will also continue to present recordings from local, national and international bands that visit the CPR Performance Studio. Almost 200 local bands have performed in CPR’s studio, including hometown favorites Nathaniel Rateliff, Ark Life and Paper Bird.

“Building on its three-year history, OpenAir remains committed to enriching the Colorado community through music discovery and deepening engagement with our local music scene,” said Wycisk.

An application has been filed with the FCC for the purchase of the FM signal from Front Range Sports Network, LLC for $5.75 million. Public Media Company represented CPR in the transaction. The purchase will be financed through the issuance of tax-exempt bonds, which is the same financing process CPR has followed for the past 15 years. Over time, the loan will be paid off by increased listener support.
