DEVOTCHKA FRONT MAN NICK URATA SCORES THE FILM PADDINGTON
Jan. 12, 2015 (Denver, CO) –The highly anticipated film ‘Paddington’ featuring the music of
DeVotchKa’s Nick Urata, hits theaters on January 16th. Based on the popular children’s books
by Michael Bond, the film stars Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Nicole Kidman, and Ben
Whishaw as the voice of Paddington. Written by Hamish McColl, Paddington is directed by Paul
King (The Mighty Boosh) and produced by David Heyman, who most recently was responsible
for the 2014 Oscar nominated film Gravity, as well as the 8 part Harry Potter series. The soundtrack
for the film also features the song “Shine”, co-written by Gwen Stefani and Pharell
Williams.
Fans can catch Urata with DeVotchKa this Valentine’s Day (February 14th) performing at the
Fillmore Auditorium for their annual Valentine’s Day celebration. Valentine’s Day has always
been a very special night and tradition for the band, and DeVotchKa is thrilled to be returning to
the Fillmore Auditorium for the first time in many years. Tickets are available now on the Live
Nation website, or for purchase in person at the Fillmore Box Office. The Box office is open
Monday thru Friday, 12 pm – 6 pm, and Saturdays 10 am – 2 pm.

About Paddington: Paddington chronicles the adventures of a young Peruvian bear who
travels to London in search of a new home. He encounters a kind family at the train station
who agree to give him a temporary home. Everything is going well until Paddington
catches the eye of a museum taxidermist (Kidman) who is determined to add him to her
collection.
About Nick Urata: As a composer, Urata is always in the studio working and, since
scoring 2006’s hit Little Miss Sunshine with his band DeVotchKa (which garnered four
Academy Award nominations and a Grammy nomination), his profile as a composer continues
to grow.
Urata experienced great success with the 2011 film Crazy, Stupid Love (Steve Carell,
Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore and Emma Stone) garnering himself a BMI Film Music
Award. He has composed countless scores since, including Ruby Sparks (Paul Dano, Zoe
Kazan, Annette Bening) What Maisie Knew (Julianne Moore, Alexander Skarsgard),
A.C.O.D. (Adam Scott, Amy Poehler, Jessica Alba, Jane Lynch), Arthur Newman (Colin
Firth, Emily Blunt) and many more.
About DeVotchKa: For more than a decade DeVotchKa has been melting its sweeping
influences into an authentic and totally original blend of rock ‘n roll. DeVotchKa’s first
big break happened when KCRW introduced LA listeners to DeVotchKa on Morning Becomes
Eclectic. The directors of “Little Miss Sunshine” happened to be listening this
fateful day, loved what they heard, and hired the band to write the score for their film. A
critical and box office smash, the film was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar and, for
DeVotchKa’s soundtrack, a Grammy. The little band from Denver was suddenly known
all across the nation, playing large venues and major music festivals, including Coachella,
Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza and Glastonbury. The love spread to Europe, which has
become a yearly destination for the band.
Coming off of a sold out performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre with the Colorado
Symphony this past summer, DeVotchKa takes the stage at the Fillmore Auditorium for a
special Valentine’s Day performance.
