Dirty Few- Party or Don’t
by Tim Wenger
Dirty indie rock is one of the few genres that, while maintaining enough mainstream appeal to keep progressing, never let go of its underground roots. Dirty Few has got that formula down to pure science, and they just dropped the documented proof in the form a new album entitled Party or Don’t on February 19.
The songs are upbeat in the manner of The Strokes meeting head on with nineties punk and for everyone embedded in Denver’s scene, are reminiscent of so many rowdy nights on South Broadway drinking cheap beer and slamming around into each other. The entire album, in fact, seems an homage to nights beginning exactly in such a manner. The song “Been Drinkin” takes it back home to a dark corner, but the tracks “Work Is For Jerks” and the following “I’d Rather Tour” bring the mind right back to the dancefloor. The album is everything that indie rock has done right piled into a short, tight, and energetic frenzy of songs that aren’t for the “I’m going to stay in tonight with a good mystery thriller novel” type. Rather, they encourage you to blow off work, crack a beer, and jump in the van.
