First Lady of Denver Announces Student Finalists of Music Competition
DENVER – Denver First Lady Mary Louise Lee today announced the eight Denver Public Schools student finalists for her “Bringing Back the Arts” music competition. The finalists will go on to compete for the top three prizes at a FREE concert at the Bluebird Theater this Sunday, March 18.
“What gifted students we have in Denver! The decision to select the finalists was certainly not easy,” the First Lady said. “From rappers to folk singers and everything in-between, 79 musically talented students entered the competition. It took our Selection Committee more than four hours of listening and deliberating to narrow the list to the final eight.”
The finalists will be given 100 concert tickets each to distribute at their schools. A percentage of each finalists’ score will be based on audience applause during the concert. Prizes will range from a KBCO Studio C session to the chance to perform as the opening act at an AEG Live concert.
“Opening up one of the hottest stages in Denver for aspiring youth musicians is something we are thrilled and excited to do for these talented students,” said Chuck Morris, President of AEG Live of the Rocky Mountains. “We hope this community event will draw attendance from students across the city, especially those who have not had a chance to visit and enjoy the Bluebird Theater.”
The “Bringing Back the Arts” finalists are:
- · Quentin Berry (JFK High School)
- · Cooper Leith (Denver School of the Arts)
- · Austin Patrick (CEC Middle College)
- · Andy Post (East High School)
- · RiZoZaz Jazz Band (Denver School of the Arts)
