First Lady of Denver Bringing Back the Arts Initiative
by Chris Murphy
As you probably know, high school dropout rates are at an all-time high in the Denver Public School system. Part of the problem is the lack of music and arts programs available to kids who need creative outlets more than ever. It seems that there is a news headline everyday about another school system reallocating funding from music and arts programs. There are people working on solutions, and they need our help. One such person is our very own First Lady of Denver, Mary Louise Lee, whose Bringing Back The Arts initiative aims to increase Denver Public School art and music programs.
The first BBTA event, hosted by the First Lady, is a music competition for DPS high school students who play in a band, rap, or sing. The Bringing Back the Arts concert will feature some of Denver’s most talented young artists who will compete for a chance to win a KBCO Studio C Session, live radio interview, opening act for an upcoming Bluebird concert, and more! Get your tickets now to find out who might get the break of a lifetime!!
Lee has an extensive background in music and theatre, and has been a part of our local music and arts scene since high school. She’s worked as an actress for the Arvada Center and the Denver Center, and she’s performed with her band, appropriately named the Mary Louise Lee Band, as recently as Valentine’s Day at Jazz at Jack’s.
Advance tickets for the Bringing Back the Arts concert are an affordable $10, and you can get yours today at http://bluebirdtheater.net/eventdetail.php?id=34429. All ticket proceeds will be used to increase arts education in Denver Public Schools.
