Flyleaf-New Horizons CD Review
by Doug Leavy
With three years between releases, and two years off the road, Flyleaf dropped their third full-length studio album, New Horizons. There have been some changes in those two years, and it is apparent in the album. Rich Caldwell, the bands’ longtime FOH Engineer passed away in a car accident, and there was the departure of front woman, Lacey Strum, to be a full-time mom.
Listening to the first single off New Horizons, you get a hint that something was going on. This is the most emotionally open that Flyleaf has been in a project. From the melodic guitars on the opening track “Fire, Fire,” to the pounding charge in “Call You Out,” New Horizons ends perfectly with “Broken Wings,” which comes across like a love letter. While it is a shorter project at 11 tracks, they have you wanting more at the end.
Flyleaf are currently touring with Drowning Pool in support of New Horizons with their new lead singer, Kristen May. Catch them live at Summit Music Hall on March 14.
