Recently, underground venue Ichi’s Pit joined Colorado’s abundance of local music opening up off 1223 West Alameda Avenue. The venue, founded by Mike Brickey and Patricia Griego, plans to cater to Denver’s metal scene in providing a more personal space where attendees can get close to the bands they love, rather than squinting to see them at a show.

To keep the venue about the audience, no show will ever cost more than $20. This is a commitment with the fans in mind, so that people don’t have to go broke to get down to some heavy music. While they plan to focus mainly on bands that fall under the styles of hardcore, metal, rock, and djent, Ichi’s Pit intends to book any performer looking for a small, down-to-earth venue where they can share their art directly with the people who love it. A few shows have taken place at the Pit, including Greeley locals, Voices, who played on September 15; however, improvements are still being made, Ichi’s Pit is not complete.

They plan to have an official opening on October 13 when all changes are made, such as the addition of a true built-in stage with a dock, professional lighting, and a small bar in the back for those over 21 who want to have a beer before rocking out in the pit. The official opening doesn’t mean that Ichi’s Pit won’t be live with some sweet bands before the 13th though. On October 6, they’ll be hosting the Return To Chaos Tour featuring Sea of Treachery, Float Face Down, the Burial, Abiotic, Vale of Pnath, As the Sky Darkens, and Dissonance in Design.
