Incubus/ Linkin Park
by Ryan Edwards
Walking into the Comfort Dental Amphitheatre after tailgating for a few minutes beforehand, I could barely contain my excitement as I was about to see two bands that I have grown up with, and have always wanted to see live, especially at one of Denver’s largest outdoor venues. As I waited in the huge line leading into the venue, I could hear MuteMath, playing in the distance. And as I walked in, Incubus took the stage and played a lot of songs off their older albums. The crowd, an eclectic group of people, got into it and the best part of the night came when the beginning riff from “Drive” hit the PA system. The crowd went nuts. Lead singer, Brandon Boyd commented before he started singing, that this song was a hit ten years ago . . . um, yeah!
Linkin Park took the stage with vocalists Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda standing next to each other in the front. The crowd exploded with screams, the lighting was amazing and Linkin Park didn’t hold back as they played hit after hit. Songs like “Bleed it Out” from Minutes to Midnight, “Numb,” from Meteroa where a few songs that got the crowd roaring. But soon they started going old school and playing songs from their first album, Hybrid Theory, like “In the End” and “One Step Closer,” songs that put Linkin Park on the map. Throughout the show the crowd never lost its energy, and every song sounded amazing. They played songs from their newer album, Living Things, like “Burn it Down” with a neon green translucent video playing in the background. After an impressive encore, the show ended, leaving everyone breathless as they left the venue that night. The show was amazing and the sound and the lighting, impressive. It’s an amazing feeling when you see your favorite bands live, and they sound as good, or better, than you expected.
