Infinite Exactitude Jamming Away

Infinite Exactitude is a blues rock/jazz fusion instrumental jam band that has quietly slipped into the mix and become a force to be reckoned with on the local music scene. The power trio hooked up about six months ago and quickly gelled into a compelling musical entity. I sat in with the crew for one of their rehearsals and they proceeded to kick it in treating me to an incredible forty minute up-tempo jam session. What immediately jumped out at me during the session was rollercoaster ride of formulated and improvised melodies that the trio spawned. The music was spicy, full of life, and not particularly tied to any one genre. It was refreshing to hear to a jam band that’s open to exploring new sounds.
The band members, Reggie Sudduth (guitar), Drake Unruh (drums), and Sergey Pogossov (bass and some of you may remember him from Pressure Point USA), have all wrapped their heads around the concept of coming together on every song but not being overly critical of the end result. The songs are breezy jams layered with subtle textures that yearn to be listened to.
“If it sounds like we’re going on something to long one of us will break it up and change the tempo,” says Pogossov, “We don’t want the music to become monotonous to the listener or too ourselves.”
“We all have our own styles and don’t want to constrict each other,” adds Sudduth, “The music just flows together, you know, and we all just get on the same wavelength.”
The crew comes into rehearsals with an open mind ready for a fellow band member to hit them with something new they’ve worked up. The music doesn’t come from anyone in particular and doesn’t belong to anyone in particular, it’s a co-op. The songs flow effortlessly rumbling along from piece to piece.
“When we sit down to rehears we listen to each other’s ideas,” says Unruh, “One of the guys lays his idea on us, we hear it, we feel it, and then we work it out between us and see how it flows.”
The band is trying to keep their egos out of the music they’re writing. They want to keep the music fresh and to the point. A lot of what goes on in the music revolves around Sudduth’s guitar riffs. Pogossov and Unruh play adeptly off of Sudduth’s riffs taking the opportunity in between his solo runs to showcase their own talents. Unruh lets his drums come in slowly building up power and tempo has the music progresses. Pogossov tends to fall back on lead bass runs, much like Jaco Pastorius, taking off for a while and then falling gracefully back to earth. The band members contrast each other brilliantly.
The lads have been busy booking shows and are looking to get some studio time in near future. If you’re looking for some fresh sounds, like instrumental jams with a jazzy bluesy twist, this is a must see act.
