James Blunt Rocks Gothic Theatre
James Blunt Is A Mad Man!
Just kidding…
James Blunt is a singing songwriting astronaut who blasted off with his mates at the Gothic Theatre. On Monday, May 12th his Moon Landing Tour landed in Englewood and yours truly, TruBlu, was there to witness a genius performance by a man known for his English troubadour stylings in songs like You’re Beautiful and Bonfire Heart, but did you know that he’s a stage diving aficionado as well? I bet not!
James Blunt is a showman in every sense of the word. His music is classic and beautiful and the Gothic Theatre became the perfect intimate setting for performer and audience. His show was a series of carefully crafted songs, witty banter, timely encores and the packed house was his for the taking as his voice guided us through a night of stirring memories and sing along hooks. In fact on many occasions I found myself singing songs I know or thought I knew at the top of my lungs with the rest of the mesmerized crowd. He bounced from song to song and played piano, several guitars(his tech was busy!) and a tiny little guitar through his set. His mastery of his was evident at every point of the night. His band was professional and supportive and served as a subtle compliment to the man of the night. Treat yourself and go see Mr. Blunt next time he’s in town. I guarantee you’ll find yourself singing at the top of your lungs too.
The New York duo, Oh Honey, opened the night with great performance. We’ll see big things from these guys as they continue to build momentum on tour in support of their debut EP, With Love. You can check them out at Red Rocks later this summer when they open for The Fray at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Sunday June 8th.
