Jimmy Eat World rocks the Ogden Theatre

After nearly 20 years, the guys of Jimmy Eat World are still going at it, banging away to their signature guitar pop melodies just like it was 1995. Touring on their recently released 8^th studio album “Damage”, Jimmy Eat World took a packed Ogden Theatre by storm Saturday night.

The evening kicked off with the sandy beach steel strings and haunted synth keys of part Denver, part Los Angeles trio South of France. The nostalgic beach party threesome slowly glided through a 30 minute set with practiced precision. Although most of their songs kept a slower more relaxed tempo, the crowd seemed to greatly enjoy everything they offered up.

After an extremely quick set change, Jimmy Eat World took the stage around 9. They immediately dove into their newest single “I Will Steal You Back”, which boasted a more matured Jimmy with easily recognizable remnants of their pop punk past.  The middle of the set was ladened with a mixture of past and present cuts like Futures, Kill, and Hear You Me only to be complete with an incredibly slow and drawn out rendition of Taylor Swift’s We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.

The strange sensation cast over the audience from the appearance of the pop country starlet’s ballad was immediately washed from memory with an incredible and enthusiastic return to the Jimmy classics everyone was there to hear. They tore through A Praise Chorus, Sweetness, and Bleed American igniting a somewhat lackadaisical crowd, bringing them to a jumping, screaming cheer.

They rounded the night off with a stunning 3 song encore only to cap it all off with their once #1 hit single The Middle. As the lights came up, the boys from Mesa, Arizona thanked an always-supportive Colorado crowd sending us off into the night bobbing and humming, only to reminisce on the days when the pop punk kings ruled the airwaves over a decade ago.
