Everyday Joe’s in Ft. Collins, Co., was the perfect place to catch Katie Herzig on her latest tour. As a non-profit coffee house and concert venue, Joe’s does the job right by providing an intimate atmosphere to enjoy a coffee and some fine music.
Matthew Perryman Jones opened for Herzig with an amazing set of his own. His gritty vocals were showcased on the songs “Amelia” and “Save You.” Jones played “O Theo” from his upcoming album Land of the Living. His blend of humor and artistry nicely paved the way for the rest of the show.
A full crowd welcomed Herzig to the stage, as she started her set playing “Wasting Time” on the ukulele. She continued to play songs from her latest album The Waking Sleep including “Oh My Darlin’” and “Make A Noise.” Herzig’s songs, full of energy and life, easily captured the audience and kept them wanting more. Midway through the set, she brought us to a somber mood by playing her beautiful and haunting song “I Hurt Too.” Herzig later invoked feelings of love and longing when she invited Jones up to sing their co-written song “Where the Road Meets the Sun.” The somber mood was short-lived as the band brought their energy back in the room with the crowd favorite “Hey Na Na.”
Herzig’s talented five-person band was a lot of fun to watch. With their incredible musicianship and entertaining stage presence, they seemed to enjoy the music as much as the audience did. At the end of their set they covered “Sweet Dreams” and “Seven Nation Army” in a melody before finishing with her song “Way to the Future.”
Herzig’s current tour is nearly over but her show is one that shouldn’t be missed the next time she comes through Colorado.
