On February 18th, the Strength In Numbers or S.I.N Tour Shows played at the Marquis for a sold out crowd of heated fans. Opening for Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows, the headliners of the night, was metalcore band Like Moths To Flames from Columbus, Ohio. The band, signed to Rise Records consists of vocalist Chris Roetter who is known for his aggressive driving vocals, bass player Aaron Evans, drummer Lance Greenfield, and the two guitarists Zach Huston and Eli Ford.

Evans describes the band as having many different elements of influence. “Our guitar player Zach,” he says, “is really into death metal”. According to Evans, Greenfield is “is into old school metalcore” while he and Roetter are big fans of pop punk. Evans says that they, “take a little bit of all of the stuff we like and we put it together and our sound is what we come up with”. Songs like their single “You Won’t Be Missed” show this best, as Evans says the song was “collectively written and [they] all had a hand in coming up with the meaning of it. It’s a subject that’s really close to [their] hearts”.

Despite their different musical influences, critiques sometimes criticize the band for having a less than unique sound. When asked if the band is planning to do anything different with future music stand out more, Evans replied “Absolutely not. We just play music that we like and it’s fun to play. We’re not really trying to reach out and change the world with our music; it’s not really our thing. We just like to have fun and we play stuff that we think is fun. Whoever doesn’t really like it, that’s up to them. We’re just doing it for us”.

The band played a passionate set and got a strong crowd response, especially considering that they were the first band to play that night. Like Moths To Flames may have been considered an odd choice for a tour with softer bands such as Hit The Lights who have a pop punk sound appealing strongly to younger teenagers and Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows who could be described as a post hardcore band with underlying pop punk sounds. The crowd, however, loved their heavier sound and worked up a fierce mosh pit. Like Moths To Flames will be touring with Texas In July and The Air I Breathe soon and will be back to play Colorado Springs at the Black Sheep on April 12th.
