Monoverde and Transverse Waves Bring Different Reggae Styles to Scene

Denver has a very diverse population. Many styles of music has been brought too and have come out of Denver. Local musicians throughout the years have inspired new generations of talent who are now playing shows themselves.
The Denver Reggae scene is very diverse as well and features bands that are bring their own artistic styles to the table. Reggae shows in Colorado often feature bands that mix rock,hip hop and electronic music to create a unique sound. An example of two diverse Denver Reggae bands are Mono Verde and Transverse Waves
Mono Verde is a Latin Reggae band that features a combination of latin music and Caribbean rhythms with reggae bass lines. While Transverse Waves is a Denver Reggae band features local musicians who grew up going to local shows.
Mono Verde’s mixture of traditional latin music and bass heavy reggae gives Mono Verde a unique sound that sounds familiar the first time listening. The Latin influenced Mono Verde is a seven piece band who have embraced their diversity. The band is fronted by Lead Singer and Guitarist Raffeell, a native of Mexico City, with guitarists and back-up vocalists, Henry Torres, a native of Venezuela, and Ricardo Alarcon from Mexico.
The band also includes a 3-piece percussion section that features local drummer Jahsun Rhymer, Peruvian Alex Chavieri and Aneudy Arias from the Dominican Republic. The rhythm section features Columbian Angela Ortiz and Ohio native Joe Baker, all of whom blend traditional Latin and reggae rhythms and create a sound that seems familiar and fun.
Transverse Waves on the other hand is four piece band from the Denver metro area who met knew each other since middle school. The members of Transverse Waves grew up listening to P-Nuckle on their school bus and are now regularly opening for the band. The band has developed a tight sound and are preparing to release their debut album featuring songs they already play during their live shows.
Transverse Waves has had many incarnations over the years, but most of the key members have remained the same. Lead vocalists, Nick Wimer, bass player Doug Maes, drummer Jake Curno and lead guitarist Ulises Cano. The current lineup is doing a great job blending modern rock and reggae to bring a modern sound to Denver.
