Denver, CO – New Time Ensemble is pleased to announce tour dates for August 2012. Following successful CD release tours of Europe and the northeastern United States, New Time Ensemble will come to Utah and Colorado from August 14th-25th.
New Time Ensemble is heading to Colorado in the wake of several successes. The quartet released their first CD, A Year in Ireland, in 2010, and has subsequently toured Ireland, Scotland, and England, as well as the eastern United States. New Time Ensemble has been repeatedly invited to perform at the United States Embassy in Dublin and they have also shared the stage with legendary Irish singer Michael Black. Well received and earning critical acclaim, A Year in Ireland also sold out its first run.
The upcoming Colorado tour dates include:
Thursday, August 23rd, 8:00 p.m. at Avogadro’s Number in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Friday, August 24th, 8:00 p.m. at the Mercury Café in Denver, Colorado.
Saturday, August 25th, 7:00 p.m. at Broomfield Auditorium in Broomfield, Colorado.
The quartet is comprised of fiddle, flute, cello and guitar. Formed in western Ireland while the members pursued advanced music degrees at the University of Limerick, the group was founded by folk cellist and Utah native Liz Davis Maxfield and Denver flutist Leslie Anne Harrison.
Maxfield, who grew up in Orem, Utah, attended Berklee College of Music before receiving a Fulbright to study Irish traditional music and cello at the University of Limerick. While in Ireland, Maxfield founded New Time Ensemble and also wrote The Irish Cello Book: Traditional Tunes and Techniques, which will be published by Hal Leonard this fall. “I am delighted to be coming west with New Time Ensemble,” says Maxfield. “We’ve had a fantastic time performing in Europe and the eastern U.S., and it will be great to play out west.”
Harrison, raised in Maine before moving to Denver, holds a Master’s degree in classical flute from New York University. She is a guest artist on Twelfth Night, which was recorded with Hem in 2009 and nominated for a Drama Desk Award. She is also a member of Folk Ragoût and co-produced their 2011 album, Folk Ragoût: Musiques Folk du Monde. She writes A Collection of Notes, directs the Harrison Studios, and is on the music faculty at Laramie County Community College, the Colorado School of Music, and the Swallow Hill Music Association. “I can’t wait for New Time Ensemble to perform in Colorado,” says Harrison. “There is such a rich folk music scene here and it will be exciting to take part in it!”
