People’s Fair – calling all volunteers!
CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!
Volunteers Needed for the 42nd Annual CHUN Capitol Hill People’s Fair
Denver, Colo. – April 2, 2013 – Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods, Inc., is now recruiting volunteers for the 42nd Annual CHUN Capitol Hill People’s Fair to be held at Civic Center Park on June 1 and 2, 2013. The power behind the People’s Fair comes from our tremendous volunteers. Hundreds of volunteers are needed every year to assure the success of the People’s Fair and the enjoyment of our many fairgoers.
In addition to our festival volunteers, the People’s Fair in conjunction with Green Up Denver are recruiting volunteers specifically for our Green Up Denver Green Squad. Green Up Denver is in its second year in existence and is working to provide standardized Green Squad volunteer and vendor training, triple-stream waste management infrastructure and tools, third-party audited compostable and recyclable event supply order guides, triple-stream waste management service referrals, public environmental education and tiered Green Event standards and certification by the City and County of Denver for businesses, vendors, events and festivals in Denver. To ensure a successful greening campaign, we need lots of volunteers!
The People’s Fair remains a shining example of neighborhood pride. It is a community-oriented volunteer event that continues to benefit Capitol Hill non-profit organizations. Greater Capitol Hill non-profit organizations benefit from participating in the People’s Fair by running the soft drink and beer booths at the Fair, and are known as “Community Partners.”

People’s Fair Volunteer Positions:
INFORMATION BOOTH
Help spread the Spirit of the Fair on our Souvenir Team! We have many wonderful items to offer the fairgoers and need your help! Cash handling experience is helpful. If you’ve got that retail niche and a friendly attitude, you’ve found your place at the 2013 People’s Fair. You may also help with one of our most important areas of the People’s Fair, the information booths. Here you will answer questions along with acting as the lost and found center, fair directory distribution center and the overall fairgoers assistance center.
FAIR AMBASSADOR
In conjunction with the Information Booths, the Fair Ambassadors are the heart of the Fair. Smiling faces and happy feet are needed to greet fairgoers, distribute Fair directories, and provide general information about the Fair and its happenings. You will be the first contact with fair-goers to make them feel welcome as they enter the fairgrounds. If you love to people watch and have a great people-person attitude, this position is for you.
WINE PAVILLION
One of our more popular volunteer categories, the wine pavilion needs volunteers primarily to pour wine and sell punch cards. The wine pavilion is located near the Studio 1430 Bandstand (featuring jazz, swing, and big band music), and is in a shaded area providing a relaxing atmosphere for our fairgoers. After your shift at the wine pavilion, you won’t want to leave!
VOLUNTEER CHECK IN/HOSPITALITY
Greet your fellow volunteers as they arrive to start their shifts. Check them in, distribute t-shirts and lunch tickets and answer any questions they might have before starting their shift. Throughout the day, volunteers will return to the Volunteer Hospitality Tent to kick back and relax while enjoying light snacks and a refreshing beverage.
ENTERTAINMENT
One of our most popular volunteer categories! The People’s Fair offers entertainment on six stages and hosts over 100 bands and entertainment acts over the weekend…and that takes the hard work and dedication of many volunteers. Assist the bands as they load in and load out their gear, assist the Stage Managers in organizing the schedules and times of acts and provide assistance to the fairgoers enjoying the entertainment. Positions fill up fast! Sign up now!
GREEN SQUAD
Join us as we work to make the People’s Fair GREEN! The People’s Fair is working with other major events in Denver to make changes to our summer festivals with the intent of reducing our impacts on the environment. Join us in our efforts to turn the People’s Fair into a more environmentally sustainable event. We are looking for volunteers who are passionate about greening and recycling, to guide and educate fairgoers in the correct disposal of their waste. We will provide an educational seminar for all of our GREEN squad volunteers to better prepare you in spreading the knowledge needed to create a more sustainable world.
FAMILY AREA
Our Family Area is growing! We need your help to provide our young fairgoers with a safe, fun place to visit while at the Fair. Attractions and exhibitors have included kid’s crafts, the Denver Zoo, KOSI 101, the Colorado Museum, the Denver Firefighter’s Museum, the bubble tower, the Girl Scouts, Home Depot, face painting, and more!
SITE SET-UP/TEAR DOWN
This is where things really start to happen. Help transform the streets of the Civic Center into the best party of the year! Let the handyman/woman in you out! Shifts are available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so be sure to select the one that best fits your schedule. As a part of the site set-up team you will be setting up tents, building props, marking booth spaces, lifting and moving heavy objects, setting up tables & chairs, helping exhibitors, etc.
SPIRIT TEAM
Get in the People’s Fair spirit and join us as we spice up the fairgrounds with banners, balloons, signs, sidewalk chalk and more!
