SoCal pop-punk band Unwritten Law will be rocking the Gothic Theatre on November 17 with Versus The World, Royal Heist and Denver legends King Rat. The band released their latest album Swan in 2011, the band’s first release since 2005. Colorado Music Buzz spoke with the band’s long-time front man Scott Russo about the new record and current tour.

The record, while sparking this and other tours, took the band much longer to record and produce than any of their previous work. “With that record, I spent a long time, like 16 months, recording it,” says Russo. “Unwritten Law took a five year hiatus. We weren’t planning on getting back together, but we met up with our friend Kevin Zinger, one of our old friends who owns Suburban Noize Records. He wanted to manage us and put out a record. We said ‘yeah, that sounds great’ and so we decided to get back together.”

“We wrote as a band for about four months and tracked the music for it, and I worked for another twelve months on it to make sure every song was the best it could be and no stone was left unturned,” Russo said. “I’d rewrite some things five or six times. We knew if we were going to come back after five years, the record had to be smashing.”

Fans can look forward to songs from Swan as well as tunes covering the band’s entire discography at the Gothic. “Denver’s always been a really good city for us,” said Russo. “It’s gonna be cold this time around, but we’re looking forward to coming.”

The band heads to Australia following this tour, then will head into the studio to begin work on an acoustic record in January. Pick up tickets at gothictheater.com
