Surviving April-EP Review

Surviving April has finally answered the hungry call of Denver’s throng of pop-punk fanatics, and released an EP, aptly titled EP. Brian Christofferson’s guitar parts are a pleasing compromise between New Found Glory and the Ataris, with Brian Blaney’s melodic voice fitting perfectly over the top. Christofferson offers up a fair amount of vocals himself, and double dipped into his talent bag, laying down the drum work on the record as well.
Surviving April’s sound is reminiscent of the traditional pop-punk sound that became popular in the early 2000’s, and you can hear influences from bands like Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance in their music. Lyrically, they do a great job of painting pictures in the mind of the listener. Their songs have a strong story telling aspect to them that helps the music to connect on an emotional level. The four-song EP is easy to listen to over and over, until you find yourself screaming “LEFT FOR DEAD!” so loud that your neighbors start wondering what’s going on.
