Colorado’s own The Rouge have two big upcoming dates here along the front range, July 27 at Hi-Dive in Denver and July 29 at The Black Sheep in Colorado Springs. The band just dropped their album Blurry on Atlantic Records, and have released a video for the song “Handcuffs.” Colorado Music Buzz caught up with the band to get the freshies on what we can expect at these performances and the rest of the news from their corner of the world.

CMB: Anything special we can expect at these two shows?

Rouge:  Just a dose of special sauce.  No, a gallon of Secret Special.  On a nostalgic pig in a homesick blanket.

It’s our first Hi-Dive show since our Farewell Denver show two and a half years ago, so it’ll be an awesome reunion with our old neighborhood venue.  And we might be doing a closing number with our best frans Tesla Rossa on stage at these shows…

CMB: How did you guys get in with Atlantic?

Rouge:  We released an EP ourselves in Denver, and sent it off to a lot of places, labels, the works.  We played a show in Los Angeles on our first real tour, and a rep was out and really liked us.  Then the train rolled on.

CMB: What is coming up the rest of the summer?

Rouge: We have a handful of dates with Scott Weiland, and are starting work on a new record.  Mostly all written, starting to experiment with recording now.  I really like the songs we have so far and excited to get them out.  But first, tweak em out and make them sound good.  Stay tuned!

CMB: Give us a brief history of the group, for those who may not have heard you before.

Rouge: We started in Denver on the crack whip sound of thunder clouds, riding on the stallions of another time. 2008 to be exact. Had an amazing time in Colorado, where we still consider home, and moved to Tennessee after signing, kept working on our album. We ended up releasing ‘Blurry’, a six song EP that really established the sound after a few crazy years of muddlement. But now we’re feeling very sure and more creative than ever.

CMB: Where can we find your tunes online?

Rouge:  The iTunes, the Amazon, the Spotify, and other cool things. Also soundcloud.com/the-rouge.

CMB: Can we find you at the Breakfast King after the Hi-Dive show?

Rouge:  Denver Diner! But yes, Breakfast King. Way too many late night drinkings ended up there.  Let’s call it a date.  July 27.
