The Yawpers-Capon Crusade CD Review

The Yawpers have not even been around for two years, yet they are already becoming the definitive sound of Colorado Americana. The Boulder quartet’s debut LP Capon Crusade takes the inner workings of front man Nate Cook’s sanctified mind and layers it on top of fast, quirky, catchy rock-n-roll that is impossible not to tap your foot to.

The second track, “Mother,” is the definition of their style: an emotional, story-telling, sing along dance number that will capture the attention of rock, country, bluegrass or indie fans. Each track on the record stands out, screaming its reason why it should be the one you can’t wait to hear them play live. What the entire record does best is to capture the most enthralling elements of nearly every form of modern American music (electronic withstanding, fortunately), and tosses them in a blender already full of soul.

Band Guru and Vinefield snatched the Yawpers up in what seemed like an instant, and it is easy to see why. With frequent touring and this new record, these guys look like they’ll be around a while.
