Tipping into 2013
by Joel Center
Provided, of course, that we make it through December 21fully intact, there will be a decision of utmost importance facing us all: how to celebrate New Year’s Eve! Of course, being the Dendrites that we are, the options are practically endless. Many will be headed towards Broomfield for String Cheese Incident; Boulder, for Yonder Mountain String Band or the Motet; or staying in Denver for the Black Angels, STS9, the Lumineers, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, or (for the particularly… ecstatic), the Decadence rave.
Dubstep artists like Zeds Dead and Mimosa playing a big party on New Year’s is no surprise, but can Sound Tribe really be the only electronic artist with some decent taste and musicianship? On the 31st they might just be, but that Sunday the 30th, a lineup for the ages will be performing at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom.
For those of you unfamiliar with Tipper, it would not be imprudent to deem him a demigod of electronica. For over a decade Dave Tipper has been making electronic music that surpasses the bounds and descriptions of any electronic music today. He has created tracks of all the subtle subgenres that make up electronica, and his work ethic is one of the most professional in the business. Last time Tipper came to our fair state was to awe and amaze the attendees of Sonic Bloom; a smashing success.
As if Tipper wasn’t enough for us Coloradans, the rest of Cervantes’ lineup on the night of the 30th is nothing less than a treat. Including the distinct and unique sounds of Denver’s own Tatanka, Seied, ill-esha, and Fort Collins’ Cualli, this show is bound to be diverse and full of talent. At $30 advance, it’s not one of Cervantes’ cheaper shows, but it’s surely not one to miss out on!
