When you Actually Should Care About What Celebrities are Doing . . .

A lot can be said about OneRepublic’s front man, Ryan Tedder. His fundamental human compassion has led him to jumpstart numerous charitable organizations, including last night’s 2nd Annual Acoustic Christmas at the Ogden, which raises money for the Children’s Hospital, Food Bank of the Rockies, and the Denver Santa Claus Shop. Performances included Zach Heckendorf, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, the Flobots, and founder of the event, Ryan Tedder’s band, OneRepublic.

Expressing the helplessness that most of us felt over the senseless tragedy at Sandy Hook, Tedder shared with us how he redirected that anger and frustration into what we ‘can’ do. Stating that, Even though the cowardly shooter took away any chance of civil justice by taking his own life, we can focus on helping the victims and families left behind.

At  http://www.indiegogo.com/onerepublicforsandyhook , Tedder set a goal to raise $50, 000 for the Sandy Hook community. He hoped to reach this goal within 30 days. Last night, Tedder announced to the sold-out crowd, that by hour 20, they had reached that goal. Inspired by that momentum, he increased the goal to $260, 000 — $10, 000 going to each of the 26 victims’ families. As of last night, he said they were at $143,000.

I am once again reminded of the power of a person, or group, who recognizes their ability to reach the masses, to use that notoriety to ignite the compassion in all of us.

Please have a happy ‘whatever it is you feel like celebrating,’ and hug your loved ones this season.

And heads up to the Lumineers . . . Tedder’s coming after you for next year’s Acoustic Christmas.
