Yonder Mountain String Band Welcomes 2014

In case you haven’t already heard, Colorado’s favorite bluegrass band Yonder Mountain String Band will be performing an epic five day run in Boulder from December 27th-31st in celebration of the New Year, and they won’t be bringing in 2014 alone. No, I’m not talking about the absurd amount of electronic shows occurring at other venues throughout the rest of the state on those nights, I’m talking about the all-star lineup of guest artists that will be accompanying Yonder throughout all but one of their Boulder performances – one spectacular addition per night. Slide guitar master Roosevelt Collier will be featured on the 27th, innovative drummer and Flecktone Futureman on the 28th, Dobro virtuoso Jerry Douglas on the 29th, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Bush will be helping the boys close their run and bring in the New Year on the 31st.
Although the night of the 30th won’t feature any guest artists, it will still be a very special night for the town of Boulder. All of the profits from that evening will be going directly into a fund which Planet Bluegrass will be using to return to their previous location, which they were forced to evacuate previous to its destruction in the Boulder floods of September. The North Face will also be aiding the cause that night by providing many products for auction, of which the profits will go to flood relief throughout the rest of Colorado.
Along with a few other modern bluegrass bands, YMSB has effectively revitalized bluegrass while introducing it to thousands of new fans. In the 15 years since their conception, they’ve evolved into something of a phenomenon on the concert and festival circuit, performing more than 100 live dates per year. YMSB is now one of the top touring bluegrass bands in the country, and they’ve designed a new paradigm to capture their best performances in the studio. While they are on the road, they seek out new studios along the way, and lay down several tracks at a time to be included in a series of EPs. YMSB EP ’13 marks the first release, a four-track EP self-produced by YMSB featuring one song written and sung by each band member. This highly anticipated new EP will be released as part of the New Year celebration.
